My Key Summer Wardrobe Staples

My Top Summer Wardrobe Staples

I’m getting to that stage in the season where I just feel like I'm missing.. something.

It’s that piece of clothing in your wardrobe that you later realise would have filled a big gap back over the NYE period when you had nothing to throw over your cute dress when it got chilly or when you realised all your denim shorts are low rise so you can’t wear them with your bikini up to the dairy to get a real fruit ice cream without feeling insecure (high waist forever!). That something for me is a spaghetti strap maxi dress which I really wish I had bought at the start of summer because my work space (home) doesn’t have air con in the office and this girl is typing up a blog post with sweat dripping down her back. “I just need something BREEZY”.

It’s not even mid Feb, and our kiwi summer tends to jog on through to late March, early April at the best of times. Something I am always surprised about at Easter when it’s still a beach swim appropriate temperature. SO, I thought it could be helpful to list my key wardrobe pieces that I couldn’t live without right now incase there was a gap you needed filling. You’re welcome.

High waisted, wide leg denim shorts

Can’t. Live. Without. Which can be a bit stressful because I find it really difficult to find the perfect style. I always go for a high waist with slightly longer wide legs as I find this style elongates you legs and is crop top appropriate for those extra warm days!

A maxi length dress for any occasion

The type you can wear to brunch with Birkenstocks or with a heel to your besties birthday bbq. My absolute favourite summer dress this season is my Ruby Allora Dress pictures here in the blog post, the colour is a perfect rust, the fabric is stunning and it makes me feel all kinds of summery.

The basic singlet

A huge necessity, but like the shorts it’s surprisingly difficult to find ‘the one’. My daily summer work from home uniform is a basic singlet and denim shorts, so I always make sure I have a couple of these on rotation on my wardrobe!

An oversized linen button up shirt

To throw over bikinis, wear as a light weight jacket when it’s chilly at the evening bbq or wear it with layers of jewellery, sleeves rolled up with denim shorts.

A cool hat to jazz things up

One of my favourite ways to jazz up an outfit. My favourite hat is my wool wide brim one from Lack Of Color and it always makes me feel cooler than I really am when I’m getting takeaway coffee before a Sunday beach walk.

Jewellery is your best friend

You could wear basics every single day, but if you’re layering necklaces, rings and stacking earrings you’ll always look effortlessly cool and well put together.

Some kind of ‘throw everything in and run to the beach’ bag

Ideally something baskety, brown and summery looking.

Birkenstocks, always

My OG summer footwear essential since 2014. Most days (let’s be honest, every day) you’ll see me in either white leather, beige or green suede Birkenstocks because comfort is key and I sort of love looking like l’m from Jerusalem 800BC.
