Gratitude List: Things I'm Grateful For Right Now

Gratitude. It’s something that we can so easily roll our eyes at because it seems like such a basic, flimsy thing, but psychologists will tell you that the more you practice gratitude, the happier you will be. We’re told as a child growing up to “be grateful for what you have, there are people around the world who are starving” when our least favourite vegetable based dinner is served and all you wanted was frozen chicken nuggets and tomato sauce. It’s something we’ve all been taught (well.. most of us) but somehow for most it ends up being a conscious practice that gets forgotten, or the brain space it takes up is replaced with things we want and desire, probably due to social media culture.

Recently I started writing things that I am grateful for down in the note section of my phone and it has honestly become one of the most therapeutic parts of my day, so I thought I would share some of my recent notes that may help you get into the habit of conscious gratitude going forward.

Things I Am Grateful For Right Now

  1. Our native Tui bird and it’s song

2. The first bite of my weekend pepperoni pizza after a week of clean eating

3. Endorphins

4. When you read a book in the evening until your vision goes and you fall asleep

5. How eternally loving, consistent and non judgmental my partner is

6. The feeling of sunshine on my body on a crisp morning

7. Takeaway coffee

8. My ability to handwrite

9. Healthy parents

10. My favourite vloggers on YouTube to help get me through lonely work days

11. Weekends away to look forward to

12. The feeling of removing my makeup after a long day

13. Flowers, poppies & hydrangeas specifically

14. A new season of Grey’s Anatomy airing next month

15. The privilege of being able to log off social media and forget about all of the horrible things that are happening in the world right now

16. Democracy in New Zealand

17. Consistent work flow with really amazing brands that I love

18. The smell of the ocean after a long winter

19. How my skin looks after exfoliating with AHA’s

20. Being able to walk around retail stores and touch clothes before I purchase them

21. Clean water to drink all day, every day

22. Friends that prove their support, love and loyalty

23. “Friends” that prove they aren’t worth your time, worry and energy so that you can spend time with the friends mentioned above

24. The excitement from my dog when I walk through the door

25. Picking fruit from a tree and eating it immediately

26. The lingering smell of citrus on your fingers after eating that fruit

27. The smell of garlic and olive oil on a hot pan

28. Getting dessert and not feeling guilty about it

29. My frequent glance at 11:11

30. Being able to control my work hours and take mental health days when I need them
