What's In My Spring Makeup Bag

You know what, it’s not even necessarily the excessive hay fever that really shoves spring into my face every year. It’s the fact that it’s only late September and I am already waking up in a pool of sweat during the night in a state of total and complete regret that I hadn’t changed over the winter duvet inner to the summer one on the first of September.

Gross, and trivial, I know.. but alas, spring has finally sprung.

With the spring clean and the post winter life declutter comes the seasonal wardrobe/makeup/skincare switcharoo that I so look forward to every month because hello, I’m a sagittarius, I LOVE a bit of drastic change.

I wouldn’t say that things have changed too much for me in the makeup department.. you guys know I won’t be deterring from my usual ‘no makeup, makeup’ glowing skin look, but there have been a few new products that have been introduced into my routine lately that I love. Plus, I’m always excited when I discover great new cream based products because creams are my jam, they look natural, they melt into your skin and me and powders (except for the odd one or two) just like, aren’t super close mates.

The glowing base

For day to day wear, I have two super lightweight bases to choose from. To keep my skin looking like, well, skin, I like my base to be almost a bit sheer, then I can build on the areas that need a little more coverage with concealer. I’ve been switching between the Chanel Beauty Les Beiges Water Fresh Tint in the shade medium and the Kosas Tinted Face Oil (ad-gift) in the shade 04. Both are beautiful, but the Chanel is a lighter weight watery texture and the Kosas one is a little more dense and buildable due to being an oil. When I need my makeup to look a little more ‘done’, I’ll opt for my trusty Clinique Even Better Glow (ad-gift) in shade Alabaster or the YSL Beauty Touche Eclat (ad-gift) is my favourite for the evenings. All of these products will give you the glow, but think of the Chanel as the lightest coverage, Kosas would be slightly fuller, then Clinique is really buildable and YSL would be my go-to for nights out where I want to look glam!

Conceal.. but keep it natural

I used to love a doe foot applicator but in recent years I have fallen head over heels for pot concealers. They are easy to use on the go, and they are great for applying a lightweight coverage that never looks cakey. The RMS Beauty Un Cover Up concealer in shade 22 is the closest thing I can find in NZ to my beloved Glossier Stretch Concealer which you can’t get here (both can literally be applied all over the face and look so dewy and beautiful). If I’m feeling pretty sleepy, I love using the YSL Beauty Touche Eclat Radiant Touch Pen (ad-gift) in shade 2 under my eyes to brighten things up. If I’ve got a spot brewing, my go-to spot covering concealer is the Nars Soft Matte Complete Concealer, it’s amazing for cancelling out zits!

Bronzer that looks like a tan

I honestly have a love affair with cream bronzers because they literally melt into your skin and give you that “I look so tan but it looks like I’m wearing nothing” look. My current favourite for quick day to day use is the Nudestix Nudies Matte All Over Face Colour Blush & Bronzer in shade Bondi Bae or if I want something that looks a little more sharp and defined, ideal for evenings, I’ll go for my Nars Liquid Laguna (ad-gift) which also doubles as the perfect bronzy liquid eyeshadow!

Bluuuuuush

My recent cream product obsession has been a Canadian brand called Nudestix. I love everything they do, the brand keeps everything simple, classy, natural looking with beautiful shades across the board. The Nudies Matte All Over Face Colour Blush & Bronzer in shade In The Nude triples as a cream blush, eye shadow and lip colour for that really summery, glowing, monochromatic makeup look which I am super obsessed with right now!

Powder (I don’t completely hate her)

Okay so sometimes we can over do the glow. I’ll admit it. I love glowing skincare and foundations, so sometimes I need to use a powder to cancel out that sweaty looking upper lip (you know the one.) I tend to powder my eye lids, under eyes, around my nose, my chin and sometimes between my brows and then let everywhere else on my face shine on through. My absolute ride or die face powder is the Hourglass Veil Translucent Setting Powder. I love it because it mattifies the skin without making the skin look matte.. does that make sense? Like it kind of just tones down the glow, but it stops you from looking lifeless. We have plenty of time to be matte when we’re dead.

Highlight

Sometimes I honestly don’t even feel like I need a highlighter because my base products are so glowy, but when I do, I’ve been loving my RMS Beauty Living Luminizer. If you’ve ever tried the Tom Ford Shade & Illuminate palette, it’s very similar to the glossy, sheer highlight in that palette duo. It gives a glossy look which I am a huge fan of, I don’t want my highlight to be beaming like its 2015 in the Jaclyn Hill era. I just want to look like a Glossier girl. Please, and thank you.

Brows! ESSENTIAL

I can’t be bothered with pencils or with filling my brows in at all. I just want them to look bushy and overgrown like Cara Delevingne. Honestly, I just whip through the Hourglass Arch Brow Volumizing Fiber Gel in Warm Brunette and I’m done.

Lips

God I am SUCH a creature of habit when it comes to lip products, but when something ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Day to day I wear my favourite favourite favourite Bobbi Brown Lip Tint in Bare Nude (sold out online you’ll need to check your local Bobbi counters) or Bobbi Brown Luxe Lip Colour in Bare Pink which isn’t pink, it’s actually the perfect peachy nude.

Lashes N/A due to my LVL lash lift and tint that I have done at Index Studio (ad-gifted).

What makeup bits are you guys loving right now? Are you using creams or powders? Tell me what I need to put onto my Wishlist!
